SAVANNAH, Georgia, Aug. 20 -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued the following news release:
The Thurmond Dam and Lake visitor center and offices are closed due to a small fire that occurred late on Aug. 19. The fire, caused by lightning entering the building through wiring, damaged electrical and air conditioning systems which then caused smoke damage. No one was present at the time and no injuries occurred.
Until cleanup crews can restore the facility, workers ha . . .
