BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, Aug. 18 -- The Louisiana Democratic Party issued the following news release:
On Sunday, Gov. Kathleen Blanco passed away after a long battle with ocular cancer. She broke barriers as Louisiana's first female governor, the first female chair of the Public Service Commission, and the first woman elected to represent her hometown of Lafayette.
