WASHINGTON, July 23 -- Bread for the World issued the following statement on July 22 on the death of Rep. John Lewis, D-Georgia:
"Bread for the World mourns the passing of Rep. John Lewis, an African American faith leader who was a hero and icon of the civil rights movement. A leader and speaker at the historic March on Washington, during his 23 years representing Georgia's 5th district in the U.S. Congress he was often referred to as our 'nation's moral conscience.'
