NEW YORK, July 17 -- Vital Strategies issued the following news release:
Nearly 72,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2019, according to provisional data released yesterday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - an increase of 5 percent from 2018.
The total is a new peak for overdose deaths in the country, and wiped out the slight decrease in overdose deaths that took place in 2018, the first drop in 25 years.
