URBANA, Illinois, June 4 -- The University of Illinois System issued the following news on June 3:

Karen M. Whitney, a nationally recognized higher education leader, has been selected to serve as interim chancellor of the University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS), University of Illinois System President Tim Killeen announced.
