WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 -- Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, ranking Democratic member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee, issued the following opening statement at a hearing entitled "The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's Semi-Annual Report to Congress":
"We created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to stand up for students, servicemembers, and other hardworking Americans and protect them from big banks and crooked corporations that rob them . . .
