WASHINGTON, Oct. 17 -- Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-Illinois, issued the following statement on the death of Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland:
"The people of Baltimore and the nation as a whole have lost a fierce advocate and a dedicated fighter with the passing of my dear friend and colleague Congressman Elijah Cummings.
