WASHINGTON, July 23 -- Sens. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, and Tom Carper, D-Delaware, chairman and ranking member of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, issued the following joint statement on news that Equifax agreed to pay up to $700 million to settle consumer claims and federal and state investigations into its 2017 data breach that compromised sensitive information of more than 145 million consumers:
