WASHINGTON, June 21 -- Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio, issued the following news release:
This week, U.S. Senators Rob Portman (R-OH) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH) introduced a bipartisan resolution in the Senate marking 50 years of environmental progress since the last time the Cuyahoga River caught on fire on June 22, 1969. The Senate resolution describes how the fire spurred important federal environmental action, including passage of the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act.
