Brown, Portman Introduce Resolution Marking 50 Years of Environmental Progress Since Cuyahoga River Fire, Call for Continued Action

WASHINGTON, June 21 -- Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, issued the following news release:

This week, U.S. Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Rob Portman (R-OH) introduced a bipartisan resolution in the Senate marking 50 years of environmental progress since the last time the Cuyahoga River caught on fire on June 22, 1969. The Senate resolution describes how the fire spurred important federal environmental action, including passage of the Clean Water Act and the Clean Air Act.
