WASHINGTON, June 19 -- Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, issued the following news release:
The U.S. Senate passed a resolution, introduced by U.S. Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and John Cornyn (R-TX), designating June 19, 2019 as "Juneteenth Independence Day'' in recognition of June 19, 1865, the date in which news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached the Southwest, and ended slavery in the United States.
