POWELL, Ohio, Dec. 26 -- The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium issued the following news release:
The female elephant calf at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium died at approximately 1:30 this afternoon after a sudden illness. The calf was being monitored 24 hours a day by members of her care team. She was observed nursing overnight, but at 6:30 a.m. she appeared sluggish. The veterinary team determined she had an infection and administered fluids, antibiotics, and blood plasma from her mother, . . .
