WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency issued the following news release:

Hurricane Florence may have weakened, but still poses a serious threat to the eastern United States. Now is the time to take shelter and stay safe. Everyone should be making final preparations this morning as Hurricane Florence moves closer to land. Coastal residents in North Carolina and South Carolina may already be seeing tropical storm or hurr . . .
