WASHINGTON, July 23 -- Rep. Donna Edwards, D-Md., (4th CD) issued the following news release:
Today, the minimum wage increased across the country from $5.85 to $6.55 an hour. This increase is the second step in legislation that will increase the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour by 2009. In Maryland alone, where the minimum wage is currently at $6.15 an hour, 117,000 total workers will be affected by the increase to $7.25 by July of 2009.
