Michigan Environmental Council: Algal Bloom Prediction Proves Governments Must Improve Their Nutrient Pollution Plans
LANSING, Michigan, July 11 -- The Michigan Environmental Council issued the following news: Thursday morning, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and its partners released the 2020 Seasonal Forecast of Harmful Algal Blooms for Lake Erie. NOAA Improves Harmful Algal Bloom Forecasts With New 3-D Model
SILVER SPRING, Maryland, July 10 -- The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued the following news: Each summer, the colors of Western Lake Erie start to shift to a deep, slimy green. The cause? Harmful algal blooms, out-of-control algal growths that can contaminate drinking water, create health problems for swimmers and pets, and interfere with boating and fishing. NOAA: Moderate Summer Harmful Algal Bloom Predicted for Western Lake Erie
WASHINGTON, July 10 -- The U.S. Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration issued the following news release: NOAA and its research partners are forecasting that western Lake Erie will experience a moderate harmful algal bloom this summer. This year's bloom is expected to measure 4.5 on the severity index - among the smaller blooms since 2011 - but could possibly range between 4 and 5.5, compared to 7.3 last year.
