KINGSTON, R.I., Feb. 23 -- The University of Rhode Island issued the following news release:
Austin Becker, a professor of marine affairs at the University of Rhode Island, has been named a Sloan Research Fellow in Ocean Sciences by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, one of the most prestigious fellowships available to early-career scientists in the United States. He is the first URI faculty member to receive the honor.
The two-year, $60,000 fellowship is awarded to 12 . . .
