BATON ROUGE, La., Oct. 17 -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Louisiana Agricultural Statistics office issued the following press release:
Louisiana Crop Prospects
Louisiana cotton farmers took major hits from Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Farmers lost several thousand acres due to fields flooding and wind damage from the storms, and more losses are being reported every day. NASS is now estimating 260,000 acres of cotton for harvest, down 25,000 acres from last mon . . .
