FORT LEE, Va., Aug. 1 -- The U.S. Department of Defense's Defense Commissary Agency issued the following press release:
The United States Coast Guard observes the 218th anniversary of its founding on Aug. 4. It was on that date in 1790 that Congress authorized the construction of 10 vessels to enforce tariff and trade laws, prevent smuggling and protect the collection of federal revenue.
